The brief: Bring to life a complicated piece of government legislation called the Accessible Information Standard. Make it informative, engaging and accessible to both the deaf and hearing community.
Our first step was to understand what the AIS meant to the deaf community and how it would enhance their experience in a hearing world.
Our creative approach needed to stand out, so that both the deaf and hearing community would want to watch a film about government legislation; no easy task. The answer was to set the story in a quirky world, a cross between Monty Python and a Fairy Tale land, with characters set in situations that the deaf and hearing community could relate to in the real world.
The film is dual layered, with the story being told with a voice over and simple sign language and key graphics for the deaf community.
The film is a huge success with fantastic feedback from all audiences.
“NRG have worked with us across many projects and have continued to show their video content expertise and craftsmanship in every case. All our content must cater to deaf & hard of hearing audiences as well as the non-impaired, so having an agency like NRG that can take this in their stride and deliver engaging & effective videos for all our viewers, is just fantastic.
Their ability to capture our messaging and enact it through real-life ‘point-of-view scenarios’ or clever animation really adds value. Even when filming on location, their team show real professionalism directing and working with deaf actors and staff.”
