We were commissioned by marketing agency Memiah in conjunction with the Counselling Directory, to make a film to raise awareness about bullying in a variety of locations and ages.
The film needed to reflect the impact bullying has on an individual and the outcome from the event. For maximum reach and impact the film would be released during bulling awareness week.
Building on the creative from the commissioning team at Memiah, we set about taking real stories and crafting them into a script. To make the film as powerful as possible we cast five actors that would represent different age groups and filmed them in a dark barn with only one light source. This stripped back look, gave the actors a feeling of isolation. The same feeling a victim has when they are bullied.
In our experience, we knew that having the actors speak the real stories on screen could detract from the impact of the real stories. To counter this we overlaid the actor’s voices and intercut the narrative of the different scenarios with added on-screen statistics to tell the bigger picture story of bullying.
The film had over 250,000 views on YouTube alone and was a phenomenal success for the Counselling directory. The film then went on to win Silver at the Surrey Business Awards.

“What set NRG apart from the other agencies we asked to pitch for the project was the enthusiasm, interest and authenticity that came across during the pitch. This continued throughout the project, working with us as part of our team to keep refining and tweaking the script, on what is a difficult subject matter to convey on film.
Even though we ended up filming in a dark cold barn for the day, the energy and enthusiasm from the NRG team never wavered. Their experience shined through, teasing out great performances from all the actors.
We are delighted with the end result, which is a very powerful film that has gained a lot of traction for the Counselling Directory on social channels.
I would not hesitate to recommend the team at NRG Digital and look forward to working with them again in the future.”
