5 great ideas to visualise your marketing content

If you want to stop your target audience in their tracks particularly on busy platforms like social media, you need a visual asset to grab their attention. Similarly, if you need to communicate complex information or messages, visualising it will help keep your prospects and customers engaged.

Visual communications is what we’re talking about. Brilliant for explaining a process, sharing data, comparing different information and communicating ideas.

But what type of visual communications should you be using for different content? Here are our favourite ways of communicating different messages and information visually:

  1. Images

Photos or illustrations are great for communicating ideas and emotions. If you’re struggling to inject feelings into your text, break it up with images that reflect the emotional response you want from your target audience.

Communicating ideas and concepts can also be challenging in text form. It can lead to long-winded explanations that risk your audience switching off. Images, both graphics and photos, can provide a more succinct way of communicating these too.

  • Infographics

We love an infographic at NRG Digital! These are great for visualising data and for communicating key facts or statements that you want your audience to remember. Infographics are also very effective at explaining a process, such as step-by-step instructions, or sharing a timeline of events.

  • Video

Another effective way to communicate a process is to create a video. This could be an extension of an infographic in the form of an animation, or a ‘real life’ explainer video. A key advantage of visualising information in a video format is that it operates on different levels – audio and visual. This is proven to increase retention of information, compared to text, and also comprehension.

Combining moving images, audio and text (for example highlighting facts and stats as graphics) is a highly effective way of communicating your message. And, of course, videos can be used for all sorts of different communications and marketing activities including promotional content.

  • Presentations

Say goodbye to death by PowerPoint, there are other ways to use presentations to engage your audience! With a small amount of animation to highlight key points, a presentation can be a really good way of representing data and providing a deep dive into a specific subject or area of interest.

Presentations don’t have to be confined to the boardroom either. They can be embedded into landing pages, shared on social media and used for videos and webinars.
  • Graphs, charts & diagrams

It was William Playfair, a Scottish engineer and political economist, who invented the bar graph, line graph and pie chart in the late 1700s. Initially, he wasn’t sure that he had invented them, waiting over 10 years before declaring that they were his invention. He said:

“The advantage proposed by those charts, is not that of giving a more accurate statement than by figures, but it is to give a more simple and permanent idea of the gradual progress and comparative amounts, at different periods, by presenting to the eye a figure, the proportions of which correspond with the amount of the sums intended to be expressed.”

Graphs, charts and diagrams of varying form are still the best way to present data, chronology and comparisons. By animating these or combining them with other visual communication tools, we can take them to them into the 21st century for a modern audience accustomed to a wide range of visual imagery.
